Easy modern wall hooks for your entryway! Learn how to cut leather on the Cricut machine and make beautiful home decor!
When I was planning out our front entryway design, I did all of the big decisions (e.g. tile, paint colour, builds, etc.) and left the little stuff for last. When it came time to dress the walls, I came up with a few ways to use some of the accessories I had around the house, but I also wanted some things I didn’t already have, like artwork and hooks. I had one of those bars, and the “S” hooks already, which could have worked as a hanger on its own, but I wanted something with a little bit more character! Something that would make people say “oooooh!” when they walked in. Leather was the perfect addition to create these modern wall hooks.

How to Make your Modern Leather Wall Hooks
When I realized I wanted to cut leather for this project, I knew I would use the Cricut Machine. Guys, this machine is like no other cutting machine. It has an adaptive tool system that enables you to cut a ton of different materials (such as cardstock, fabric, leather, wood, etc.) and make a wide variety of projects.I use it all the time!
Materials Needed
- Design Space File
- Cricut Machine
- Cricut Genuine Leather
- Deep Cut Cricut Blade
- Strong Grip Cutting Mat
- 527 Multi-Use Glue
- Black bar or Ikea Fintorp System
- “S” Hooks
Step-by-step Tutorial for your Modern Wall Hooks
Start by opening THIS design space file. It will perfectly cut out six leather pieces for our modern wall hooks. If you need more then that you can customize the file by copying and pasting more. This project was designed by yours truly, using just basic cricut shapes – which means its free to cut too!
Once your design is ready, select “leather” as the cutting material, and get ready to load your Cricut Maker with the Cricut genuine leather.
There are a few things you want to make sure to do when cutting leather. First, load that deep cut blade before you start (above), and load your genuine leather onto the strong adhesive (purple) mats so that the leather won’t shift when it is cutting.
See those little white stars? Right overtop of the purple part of the mat? Those guys are usually there to help guide your material into the Cricut Machine, but in the case of leather, they are no help! They will actually mark up your leather and make pieces unusable. In order to avoid this, I cut a tiny strip off of my leather before I load it onto the mat, then I move all of those white stars to one side, where my strip of leather was cut away. That way it won’t affect the leather at all! Just make sure to move them back before you cut your next project!
Once the leather pieces for your modern wall hooks are cut (And look! Aren’t the cuts beautiful! Perfect and professional level cutting here!), remove them from the mat and get ready to glue them. I used 527 Multi-Use Glue, but there are many glues that would be strong enough to hold leather.
Add the glue to the end of your leather piece (not where the loop will be), and hold the leather in place until the glue sets (about 30 seconds).
Once they are set, you can simply slide them onto your Fintorp bar, slip the “s” hooks into the holes and your modern wall hooks are done!
This project turned out beautifully! I’m so happy with the end results!
The brown leather is beautiful. These modern wall hooks are the perfect addition to the entryway!
