A Simple Concrete Project: Metallic Candlesticks

Do you give homemade Christmas gifts? And if you do, are they Christmas themed? I love a giving DIY gifts. There is something special about giving something homemade, but I rarely give Christmas-themed gifts, lol (even though I love receiving them!). I’m a home decor DIYer – I always end up making and giving gifts that I would want in my home and could keep out year-round. These DIY metallic candlesticks are actually a gift that I wanted to make for someone, and the holiday season is the perfect time to share the tutorial!

Krylon is sharing some beautiful metallic colours for the winter as part of their Tiffany Pratt collection. As soon as I saw this beautiful metallic collection, I knew I was going to have to use more than one colour in my DIY project. Mixed metallics are always beautiful, but especially during the holiday season!

What you need to make Metallic Candlesticks: 

• Metallic Spray Paint (Silver, Gold, and New Penny)
• 1/2″ Copper Pipe cut into three different lengths
• Three old plastic containers
• Vegetable Oil or WD-40
• Makers Mix Concrete
• Water
• White Paint (optional – I always use Lamp White)

How to Make Concrete & Copper Pipe Metallic Candlesticks:

People often find concrete projects intimidating, but they really don’t have to be if you have the right stuff! Makers Mix is concrete that you can mix on your countertop with water and it sets in less than an hour! A quick and easy gift!

If you’re making three candles, you’ll want to start with three different lengths of copper pipe. Mine were 6.5″, 5″ and 3.5″ long (If you need to cut your pipe, check out this tutorial!). Spray paint your copper pipe pieces in your beautiful metallic colours.

When the spray paint has dried, it’s time to mix the concrete. Grease your plastic containers with vegetable oil or WD-40, mix the concrete according to the directions, and pour into the containers. When you are happy with the amount of concrete – stick those copper pipe pieces inside, making sure that they are sitting upright! It will only take 40 minutes for it to dry, so you’ll be done the entire project in no time.

When they are dry, they should slide out easily. I chose to then paint my concrete blocks white, because I thought it would look better against the metallic colours. That’s it!

I LOVE these! Nothing makes me feel cozy and brings on the hygge like a candle, and these metallic candlesticks are the perfect blend of unique and functional.

I love the raw look of the textures mixed with the modern colours. It’s such a beautiful and easy DIY. Home decor gifts that can be used and displayed are always my favourite kind.

For now they are on display in our entry (which I got to decorate for the first time since the renovation!) and I absolutely love the texture and colour they add to the space!
