This year I joined an amazingly talented group of Canadian bloggers for the 12 Months of DIY challenge. Each month we challenged ourselves to use one product in a unique way – all 12 of us used the same product and gave it our own design spin. It’s been SUCH a fun challenge. I couldn’t let the year go by without recapping these great pieces and sharing my favourites.
My Best 12 Months of DIY projects
I joined the challenge part-way through. My first challenge was using paint in a project, and I made this Industrial Style Side Table. I still LOVE this piece. That paint colour is gorgeous!!
Next, I was challenged to use a thrifted item, and I used some beat up old lamps to make these beautiful Industrial Sconces. I was SO surprised to see how popular it was – it was actually my most viewed post of the entire year!
The next month we were challenged to use Mod Podge – which is NOT something I use on a regular basis! I was forced to think outside of the box, and I came up with a way to use it on my Wood “Home” Sign :) That’s one of the reasons I loved this challenge the most! Forcing me to think outside of my usual box!
The next month we were challenged to use Spray Paint – and since I was working away secretly on my command center – I knew this Pencil Holder would come in handy! I still can’t believe I made this from an old bath caddy.
Then came the month for felt. I made this Felt Wall Organizer and I picked it as my favourite project of the year. Why? First, I LOVE how it turned out! It’s so chic! Second, sometimes I find it hard to come up with projects that are really simple. This project was easy, but it still transformed into something elegant. Third, felt is another material that I don’t use all that often. I had to stretch my creative muscles :)
When the vinyl month came, I was SUPER excited because I had been wanting to try to make some large Number Subway Art for a while. Worked out perfectly!
The fall brought with it a challenge to use faux florals and I couldn’t wait to test out my arrangement skills with these Copper Centerpieces for Fall.
I went ultra-modern for my ribbon challenge – making this DIY Modern Christmas Wreath. I love the clean lines and the mixture of textures.
This rustic gift wrap was my project for the paper challenge. If I’m being 100% honest with you, this project was planned and completed in only a couple of hours, lol. And I CANNOT believe how popular it was! My readers LOVE gift wrap!
My final piece was this DIY Yarn Art. I was trying to come up with an uber creative use of yarn that I had never seen before. Now my head is spinning with more ideas!
I hope you enjoyed seeing all of these great projects highlighted again! I definitely LOVED seeing what everyone chose as their favourite pieces!
Collaborating with other bloggers exposes you to new levels of creativity, diversifies your style and helps you build those oh-so-important real friendships (otherwise blogging can be a pretty isolated world!). I’ve enjoyed this challenge SO much! I can’t wait to see which challenges the new year brings me.
Now it’s time to see which projects were my blogging friends’ favourites, and what they thought of our yearly challenge. Click on the project name to visit their project post, and their blog name to visit their blog and see their last #12MonthsofDIY post.
