Sooo… who’s ready for Christmas?? If you’re following me on Instagram, you’ll know that we’ve already had a big dump of snow up here in Northern Alberta (ugh… I know). It’s getting me in the mood for Christmas! Since our 12 Months of DIY Challenge was to use ribbon, I figured everyone would forgive me for one really really early Christmas post! Right? It’s worth it for this Modern Christmas Wreath.

How to make your own Modern Christmas Wreath

Honestly, when I realized ribbon was this month’s item, I was pretty stumped. What will I make with ribbon? But the snow inspired me to make a wreath so I went for it! I hope you like my modern take on a Christmas wreath.

Creating stencils for the modern Christmas wreath.

To start, I used my Cricut Explore to cut the stencils I wanted to use on my wreath.

Then came the fun part! I put my newly cut vinyl stencils on top of my plywood and traced them with a pencil. If you don’t have a Cricut, you can cut out any shape on paper and trace it onto the wood.

Next, I used my scroll saw for the intricate cutting. Since I have a very fine blade (which I recommend using), I was able to cut any angle. When the wood pieces are cut out, you can drill a hole into them to pull the string through to hang the wood pieces up.

Next, I spray painted my embroidery hoop black, because I liked the contrast against my white front door.

Finally, I gathered my velvet ribbon, pine branches, and wood pieces, and I used the space between the two embroidery hoop rings to hold all of them in place. The branch was tied on with string at the back instead.
