Well… it’s been months since I told you all that I would share this post. MONTHS since I finished my Dream Close Makeover and promised to tell you how this light came to be. To be honest, I kept telling myself, “This project is so easy. No one wants to hear about projects that are this simple.” But then my friends come over for a visit, and they all mention the ceiling (obvi) and then the light fixture. “Oooo, where’d you get that black light?!”. So I’m going to tell you how to do your own chic lighting update :)
Have you ever looked for a matte black light fixture? Not just black, but flat matte black. It is hard to find an affordable one! So instead I just looked for a light I sort of liked. This one was on sale at Costco and I knew it would be perfect.
There are two super simple things we did:
1) Spray painted it
2) Changed out the bulb
To paint it, we took the glass off, and hung the fixture so that we could spray from all angles without blotches of paint.
the Rustoleum flat black is my absolute favourite spray paint right now. LOVE how it goes on smoothly and easily.
Although I love a good Edison bulb, I didn’t think that it suited the space, or the fixture, after the spray paint. So I swapped it out for a clear, round bulb.
Will you look twice at those discount pendant lights now?
If you haven’t stopped by yet, don’t forget to check out my Dream Closet Makeover too!
