Have you noticed that fall always seems to swoop in overnight? One day, you just wake up and realize it’s sweater weather? Send your husband to get the fireplace ready and pull out your wool socks? I’ve already had that day come and I’m not even going to pretend to be upset about it. Sweater weather is the best kind of weather. I’m welcoming autumn with arms wide open and a Hello Fall DIY Pillow!

This pillow is a great modern fall addition to your home decor. And I’m not the only one bringing in the season… I’ve got a fantastic group of bloggers who all wanted to share their fall DIYs—catch all of the great projects at the bottom of the post.

Every season, my style evolves and my DIY projects take a new edge. What I absolutely love about this DIY pillow though? It completely jives with any style. I bet all of you can see this piece tucked on your couch.

• Cricut machine
• Cricut Design File (below)
• Weeding Tool
• Cricut EasyPress2
• EasyPress Mat

How to Make Your Own Hello Fall Pillow Cover

First, open the Design File in the Cricut Design Space. You can make your own design, or open this file FREE when you sign up for our e-mail list:

Once you have your design open, click “Make it” in the top right corner. This will bring you to the page above, where you can select “mirror” on the left, and your image will automatically be reversed.

If you want to create your own design, it’s easy to do in the Cricut Design Space. You can choose your own design, your own font, and your own wording. You can also add images!

Next, set your Cricut machine to “iron on vinyl” and load your vinyl into the Cricut machine to begin cutting.

I chose to use a black vinyl because I love a monochrome colour palette, but feel free to use a more “fall” themed colour, like brown, burnt orange, or mustard yellow.

Make sure that the vinyl is loaded shiny side down before you start cutting!

After the cut is done, you need to remove the vinyl from the strong grip mat, and then weed away all of the unwanted parts so that you are left with just the words on the protective plastic layer.

This is always the most satisfying step! I don’t know what it is about removing that old vinyl…. but it’s so good to finally see your design cut out perfectly!

Pull out your EasyPress 2 and EasyPress mat to iron the design onto your fall DIY pillow. These tools allow for even heat, and a finished project in just seconds, but if you don’t have them, an iron and ironing board will work too!

Start by heating the fabric to get it warm and to remove wrinkles.

Next, place your design (protective layer up) onto the pillow. I used a ruler to make sure that my design was centred perfectly.

When you are ready, use the EasyPress 2 to apply heat as stated in the instructions, according to your fabric type. Mine only needed 30 seconds at 340F.

Let the fabric cool completely and then remove the protective coating to reveal your finished pillow case!
