Welcome to day 6 of my 8 days of Christmas crafts!
If you are looking for a super simple decoration for Christmas, these burlap garlands are just the thing!
I was trying to think of a way to dress up my windows for the holidays, and garlands are the obvious choice. Since I don’t have any off hand, once again, the DIYer in me decided to make some!
These simple square garlands took no time at all to make and hang, and they fit in perfectly with my red, gold, and burlap Christmas theme.
Materials:
Natural Burlap
Red Burlap Ribbon
Green Burlap Ribbon
(you want all of the burlap to be a fairly tight weave so that they won’t fray easily)
Coordinating brown, red, and green thread
Gold Ric Rac (or jute string!)
To make the squares I first cut them into rectangles, I used the exact width of the red and green ribbon (2.5″), and I made the length 3″.
I cut several of these in red, gold, and brown burlap.
[Note: My ribbon had wire in the edges, that I made sure to pull out before sewing]
Next, I folded the top of the rectangle down by 1/2″, and sewed the folded down portion with a 3/8 seam allowance. The sewing doesn’t have to be perfect – mine certainly wasn’t! This left me with a square shape, and a nice little slot along the top of the square to slide my ric rac through!
I slid the gold ric rac through the tops of the squares to make a nice garland that fit perfectly in my window, and then my super handy husband hung them up for me :)
That’s it!
A quick and easy burlap garland for the holidays.
I put mine over top of our living room windows and I love the colour it added :)

You've made the burlap look so beautiful teaming it up with just the right shades of red.
