Summer’s here! Are you enjoying every minute? Up in this northern corner of the world, we only get hot sunny days for four months! You better believe I’m taking every opportunity I can to get outside, lol. And since most of our summer events involve friends or family, I thought it would be awesome to come up with a fun BBQ idea! Enter our very first DIY Shish Kabob Bar!

I actually had this idea for a shish kabob bar last summer. We were having people over for a BBQ, and I thought it would’ve been so fun to set up something like this! But at the time, Martha Stewart wasn’t selling amazing celebration bundles at Michaels, and the thought of putting it all together (and still making it look good!) was a little too daunting. BUT once I got my hands on this summery indigo celebrations line, I knew exactly what I was going to do with it (& took excessive photos – which you can see below…)! This is just one of 10 of her beautiful new Celebrations collections and it fit with my kabob bar theme perfectly!
The Martha Stewart Indigo celebrations line comes with these beautiful navy banners, that I spiffed up really quickly with my Cricut Explore Air 2!
Here’s everything you need:
- Cricut Explore Air 2 Special Edition Martha Stewart Machine Bundle
- cute little buckets
- The Martha Stewart Indigo celebrations line
- Cricut Design Space cut file: HERE
How to Customize A Banner for a DIY Shish Kabob Bar:
The first step was to measure the length and width of the space available for my text. If you are using the same banners as me, you don’t have to worry about this step!
The next step is to open the Design Space File (or make your own if you prefer). This design is already perfectly customized for these indigo banners!
Load your orange vinyl into the beautiful gold Martha Stewart Cricut Explore Air 2, set the dial on your Cricut to “vinyl”, and then cut the design!
Once your letters are cut, simply peel them off and place one letter on each banner flag!
It’s SUCH an easy DIY, yet the entire party set-up looks so customized now. PLUS, I use the removable vinyl, so it’s super easy to take the vinyl off when you’re done, and use the banners for another party later!
I used so many pretty elements from the Martha Stewart Indigo Celebrations Line. Including their plates, napkins, tablecloths, labels, and buckets – all of which can be picked up at Michaels!
Since you never know what your guests will love, I supplied a ton of different veggie options. I also supplied a quick marinade for the veggies that consisted of olive oil and garlic. Guests could brush it on as wanted once their kabobs were built to add a bit of flavour.
I LOVE the cute little buckets! I used the solid navy ones to hold all of the veggies, and then used the polk-a-dot ones to hold the marinated meats! I put the meat on ice in a cooler so that it could stay out as long as possible (and don’t worry, it will all be gobbled up! lol).
My whole family, and especially by kids, had a ton of fun putting their own shish kabobs together. And they were DELICIOUS!
No go get the BBQ ready!
