An Easy Craft for Those Old Corks

Hello everyone! Welcome back to another Create with Me challenge! This is our monthly challenge where my friend Samantha, from Little Bits of Home, and I get YOU to vote on an item and then we use our creative juices to do our best DIY with that item! We usually post on the first Monday of the month, but in Canada we had a holiday so I asked if we could push it back a couple days (hope you don’t mind!).  Last month you voted for Terra Cotta Pots, and I made these great metallic ones. Before that you voted for jute string and I made these great Lanterns. Now you’ve voted again and I can’t wait to show you an easy craft for those old corks you have lying around! 

If you’re anything like me, you probably have a few of these wine corks lying around. Because I know my creative juices are always flowing, I never throw stuff like this away (or maybe that’s the Dutch in me?!).

Materials:

Wine corks
Magnet strips
Power Tac glue
Bandsaw or Scroll Saw

Start by using your bandsaw or scroll saw to cut the cork in half. You need to bring your fingers fairly close to the blade, so make sure to grasp the cork tight and move slowly. If you are not comfortable, ask someone who is to help out!

I grabbed my power tac for this next part. This glue is awesome! And doesn’t stink, like some other strong glues I used to use… lol.

Cut a strip of magnet, and apply it to your cork as soon as the glue is applied. for magnet, you want to make sure you test out the strength first. Some magnets will only hold up light paper. If you want to hold up cardstock or photos, you will need something stronger.

They dry in minutes. Seriously, I had them on my wall 10 minutes later!
