Baby’s First Flight

Unknown

Just thinking about travelling with a baby gave me anxiety.
Thinking about doing it ALONE only increased that anxiety.

But we had to try, because Ellie’s grandparents needed to see their first grandbaby!
So I braced myself for a long day on a plane with a 5 month old.
I planned and prepared as best I could:

1. Picked flights that matched her nap/sleep schedules (as best I could!). The super early flight was great because she slept the whole time!

2. Booked great seat! Windows, because I found it easier for breastfeeding, and the first row on the long flight because it gave us lots of extra space (i.e. playing on the floor)

3. Packed carefully. Electronics that I didn’t want in my luggage (e.g. camera, iPad) and a baby bag full of diapers, changes of clothes (for both of us in case of accidents or spit-ups!), and toys :) Also, I brought our travel head rest because it made a nice headrest for her on my lap while she was breastfeeding, and while she was playing.

4. Carried on breast milk in a small travel cooler. I brought fresh milk and kept it cool and then put it in the freezer when I arrived. That way I didn’t have to worry about the milk thawing and being unusable and I didn’t have to travel with a breast pump!

And she was a rock star.
Seriously the best baby in the world!
Slept the whole first flight. Played and talked for 2/3rds of the second flight and then slept the rest of the way. She probably fussed for 10 minutes total when you add it all together, and that was because she was waiting for food, uncomfortable, or super tired and ready to fall asleep.

This will be so much easier on the next flight when we have Daddy to help too!

Glad it went well! now you probably have greater sympathy for my flying alone from St Johns to GP for your wedding with a 9 month old ;) Enjoy your holidays- Can't wait to see some of your ON pics! :)

Totally!! And your little one was way more mobile than mine was at 5 months. I don't know how you could do it with two kids and only one parent!

That's great! I actually prefer flying alone, I found daddy complicated my routine as Casey and I are pretty seasoned together. It gets harder as he gets older and wants to be more busy. 4-5mos was my fave flying time

I could see that too! I just think it will be nice to hand her off here and there to Daddy, lol. And to put up the stroller for me and hold one of our carry-ons! I found it hard to juggle everything by myself.
